POSITION TITLE: Dock & Lagoon Attendant  

REPORTS TO (TITLE): Waterfront Supervisor & Director of Waterfront 

POSITION TYPE: Full Time/ Part-Time Positions 

 

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS: The Dock & Lagoon Attendant is responsible for working in an outside operation of a full-service recreational rental dock and waterfront area and providing an extraordinary customer experience by offering friendly and courteous service and helping to ensure a safe boating/paddling experience in the Wai Kai Lagoon.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Prepare the Rental Dock for the day by completing the Pre-Opening Rental Dock checklist, which will include tasks such as: roll racks for PFDs and paddles to the appropriate place on the dock, turn-on and log-in to the POS, ensure rental equipment is clean and ready for rent, batteries are fully charged, and that the dock and beach area is clean and tidy.  
  • Assist guests in the rental of paddleboards, kayaks, boats, and other rental equipment. 
  • Be knowledgeable on the use of all rental equipment and be able to provide guests with instructions on how to use the rental equipment and safely help guests to and from their equipment and the Rental Dock. 
  • Will learn to paddle an OC-6, OC-1, kayak, drive/dock an inflatable RIB and Duffy boat, and to safely tow other kayaks or paddleboards.  
  • Patrol the Wai Kai Lagoon to monitor safe boating and compliance with rules and regulations. 
  • Ensure that rental equipment is cleaned between rentals. 
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of special events, races, or other activities offered by The LineUp. 
  • Ensure that boats are properly stowed, cleaned, and secured at the end of day. 
  • Ensure cleanliness of dock area (hosing down dock) at the beginning of the day and is clean of trash at the end of the day.  
  • Perform weekly upkeep/draining/cleaning of boats in accordance with weekly maintenance schedule. 
  • Document any injuries or damage to boats on the applicable Incident Report and share the report with your Supervisor and Manager in a timely fashion. 
  • Operate the point-of-sale system to efficiently be able to review customers’ orders, payments, and to upsell additional products or services in the system. 
  • Follow all company safety procedures while handling the boat fleet and inform guests of safety expectations in a professional manner. 
  • Perform minor repair work and maintenance-related tasks for the Rental Dock area and equipment. 
  • Supervises swimming activities at the Wai Kai Lagoon and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed by renters at The LineUp. Warn rental customers of improper activities or danger and enforce Lagoon regulations and water safety policies. 
  • Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary. 
  • Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required. 
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services 

Position Requirements: 

  • Excellent customer service and people skills 
  • Experience on vessels, Commercial or Recreational Boat experience. 
  • Must have outrigger paddling experience. 
  • Must have ocean sports experience, OC-6; OC-1; Kayak, SUP (Stand Up Paddle) experience.  
  • Must have strong swimming skills. 
  • Must be able to work a variety of day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts. Prefer someone who can be flexible depending on weather and scheduled events. 
  • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision. 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills - must be able to read, write and speak English. Additional language skills are a plus. 
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and can perform the Dock & Lagoon Attendant duties. Frequent bending, twisting, lifting, and squatting will be required.  
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and have excellent multi-tasking abilities. 
  • Must be a person who takes pride in their work and likes to stay busy focusing on doing the best job possible. This job requires responsibility for expensive boats and equipment so great care and attention to detail and safety is essential. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   KNOWLEDGE, WORK EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION 

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required 
  • Japanese/Korean speaking preferred. 
  • Experience: Six months customer service and/or food and beverage experience preferred 
  • Prior to start date Dock Attendants must acquire Hawaii Boaters Safety Certificate through a free online course with Boat US Foundation, that takes a few hours to complete. https://www.boatus.org/hawaii/ and the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources Boater Education course. 
  • Valid certified Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, or equivalent 
  •  Valid American Red Cross, or other accredited organization, for adult and pediatric CPR/AED-BL first aid course.  
  • Reliable transportation to/from The LineUp at Wai Kai.
